The flag of the Métis (blue or red) is the oldest Canadian patriotic flag Indigenous to Canada, pre-dating the Canadian flag by over 150 years. It was gifted to theMétis Nation by Alexander MacDonnell of the North West Company in 1814. Cuthbert Grant later flew it into the Battle of Seven Oaks of 1816 against the Hudson’s Bay Company and it was the first time the Métis asserted themselves as a distinct nation of people with rights to trade and travel freely on their own land. Overall, the Métis flag symbolizes the creation of a new society that combines the mixture of Indigenous and European heritages that will continue to exist and thrive forever. The Métis Flag continues to represent one of the four pillars of the rich Métis culture of Canada. Buy yours today and proudly wear/wave/fly it in public.
